Acne – Not Just A Problem For Teenagers
The facts are that about 25% of all adult men and about 50% adult women suffer from some form of acne. Adults can experience acne even in their 20s, 30s and 40s, and sometimes beyond that. Acne is never pleasant but adult acne seems worse as acne is usually thought of as a teenager problem. Adult acne can be very hard to do with and can even lead to depression, a bed self-image and even social anxiety may occur. The causes are different for all people and the treatments very widely. However the majority of adult acne cases can be treated and managed very effectively.
Some people believe that adult acne has hormonal roots, but the causes are unknown. Pimple treatment may involve balancing hormones, and usually requires a visit to your healthcare provider or dermatologist for testing to find out if hormones actually are the problem.
Although it is known that ports that are clogged can block oil from escaping, it isn’t known why this happens in some pores and not in others. The numerous causes of acne in adults and teens include diet, genetics, vitamin deficiency, stress, hormone imbalance and more. Since it’s not known what actually causes pimples because the real explanation may be a complex mix of many factors, it’s important to focus on the proper treatments of acne.
Since acne is often considered to be a hormonal condition, do you ever wonder why you never see acne on child? This is because young children don’t have the hormones that are needed to mature the oil in the skin. Once a person reaches adulthood many things can throw hormones out of balance and in turn cause problems in the skin. Some of the things that can cause these imbalances and flare ups are puberty, pregnancy, menopause and more. Androgens, the male hormones found in men and women, cause all surpluses and are the biggest cause of clogged pores. Acne caused by hormones is more prevalent in women during menstruation, pregnancy and menopause cycles.
There are many forms of treatment available for adult acne. The best treatment is the same recommended for most teenagers. Benzoyl peroxide is better at killing acne than any other medication on the market today, including prescription medications. For this to be effective a person must use enough of the product and according to instructions. If properly used at a large amount the acne will begin to clear up. This treatment is also very simple and not invasive in any way, and doesn’t have a negative effect on the skin like other prescription acne treatments. This means you won’t see a worsening of the skin before you see improvement. Also the skin doesn’t build up a tolerance of this treatment, therefore it will be effective for a long-term use. So if benzoyl peroxide works on the acne to first time, it will always work.
It’s important to note that adult acne is much more common than most people think. There is a large population of adult acne sufferers. And there are many treatments available to control acne problems.
